It may do but not by much unfortunately. I presume you are on CSA 1, they do take your partners income into account - as they can contribute to the household bills then it means they can use more of your money to make an assessment.

I think you've been lucky not to have been re-assessed in so long! Doesn't help with your cash flow now though, have sent pm!!

Don't want to scare you, but we pay more than £500 a month for one child. We are not in extremely well paid jobs either! On CSA 2 we'd be paying significantly less than this. There used to to be someone on here, Kelloggs, who would do a CSA1 calculation for you if you sent the details, which would give you some idea of what your liability will be. Hopefully you won't get any arrears added on top of whatever the calculation will be.

Is there any other users on here who can fathom the formula out on CSA1? We can work out if it was CSA2 or 3 but it seems as though they just pull a figure out of a hat. I have joined NACSA and even the lady who i spoke to there was unsure:(
  • I must say this is the most active Forum I have read regarding CSA issues as someone always seems to have a current issue. My situation is not dissimilar to MikeM however the PWC involved the CSA within 2 days of giving birth, even though in a relationship with me and without my knowledge. The relationship dissolved and 16 years down the line the battle with the CSA continues. I am in a responsible job and nothing has changed since the QC was born. The PWC has challenged every part of the assessment process and denied access throughout. At 16 the tables are turning and advice is sought on the process. I think I have understood that at age 16 (on the day) the Carers Allowance should stop, generating a re-assessment. At the same time on 31st August (on the day)CB ceases to be paid if the QC does not pursue one of the options laid down. I was informed by CSA that neither they, nor the Benefits Agency have the time or the manpower to check the stopping of these Benefits so it was up to me to inform them to force them to do a check. It also appears that if I did not inform them that the QC was not pursuing an approved coures, then Maintenance would continue unchecked. I have lodged a complaint with them so they can check as the PWC will continue (fraudulently or not) to claim as much as possible. I hope I am correct if anyone can advise.

You seem to have things correct. After 16 if CB is still being paid due to non advanced education - https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit-16-19 then CSA is still payable. Once CB ceases then CSA is recalculated. On CSA 1 the carers allowance part of the calculation is taken away so it is possible that the amount payable will reduce - it did in our case although not by a lot.

However you do have to be pro active and tell the CSA of any changes - request a "change of circumstance" not a reassessment - a change of circumstance looks at one aspect of the case and isn't a full recalculation of the whole case. In our case the overpayments were credited back to us over a few months not given back in a lump sum so as not to inconvenience the PWC.
