Saving for kids' uni education

Hi all,

We've started to save £200/month in a S&S ISA with HL aiming to save £60,000 for our kids' living costs if they go to uni.Our first could start in 12 years and our second in 15 years. We used a HL calculator, specifying a timeframe of 15 years (halfway through their 'combined time at University) and 5% growth pa. We know that we need to increase contributions with inflation. Despite being ok at finding mortgages etc we don't know much about S&S. We realise this isn't good and want to change. E.g. By ordering the Tim Hale book.Maybe this was stupid but we picked funds from the HL master portfolio. We currently pay £50/month towards each of the following funds:

Malborough special situations
HL multi-manager balanced managed trust
Lindsey train global equity
First state Global emerging market leaders

We suspect that HL are not great value for money with this type of investment but are sticking with them for now as the interface and information available to the novice user is good. Comments on our approach here would be very helpful.Thank you all.
