I can save up a deposit but paying rent, bills etc its not going to happen anytime soon. I am currently working 2 jobs looking for a third. I have always been brilliant with money - unfortunately the ex really did scr*w me up! I always always pay my bills and never would have credit - if i can't afford it I don't have it! I know I can't be childish and say it was all his fault but it truly was! I just feel lost and like I am relying on others all the time. Just want my own little place that I don't need to worry about.

You're likely to get a much better mortgage rate if you're patient and wait a while to restore some of your lost financial credibility. Try building up your deposit, ensure you never miss a credit card payment, be 100% squeaky clean from now on to show lenders that you've a good risk. Five year's patience now could pay you huge dividends in the future - if you rush this you're likely to have to pay a considerably worse interest rate and that could be really costly.

I can understand your desire for security against rent increases etc, but have you thought of renting a room in someone's house rather than having a flat all to yourself whilst you save for a deposit? Ideally with someone steady and dependable (maybe someone retired who would welcome the extra cash and be unlikely to turf you out or raise your rent if you give them no good reason to turn against you)?

  • I know and you are right BUT I have all my furniture that I really don't want to give up, lost everything before and built it up again! been living on my own for 6 years now and become used to it. Don't know how I would feel living in someone else's house. I am not a confident person really and find situations awkward. I think I would be living in my bedroom and not daring to venture out if I lived in someone else's house. I am not looking at a 5 bed mansion - just a cosy little one bed property. I just want to know there is life after bankruptcy.

The problem you have is that your not prepared to put your things in storage, you cant travel from a relatives, you wont house share so effectively you are reducing all of your options down to carrying on as you are.

Im not saying what you are doing is right or wrong, at the end of the day its your decision but sometimes you have to go through the bad times to get to where you want to be.

You won't even consider 6-12 months of relative discomfort in order to get what you want?
  • I don't think I earn enough for it to be 6 - 12 months. I don't think it will get me any further. Storage costs and rent wherever I am and bills..... I don't think I will be any better off. I will have a look into it though and add up costs. Thanks

One last thing im going to add as i dont think i can help any more but what has happened has happened. I often see people with adverse credit and we come up with a plan of action... typically that can involve in me checking up on them 6 months and 12 months later before we can do anything.
