    Why?

It's Another example of government propaganda to the run up to a general election.

If you can not see that you must be taken in too.

the methodology is freely available so you can rerun the figures and gives us the true ones

the telegraph originated a 'real RPI' when Labour were in power because they knew, like you that labour were all liars and it was all government propaganda.

They published the results very saturday and clearly showed (for a few months) that the government figures were 'wrong' and that the 'real figures' were a lot higher

Unfortunately after about six months their figures 'true RPI' were lower than Labours

I've just inviting you to prove the same

It makes me wonder why we employ ranks of very expensive statiscians to compile, interpret and display such data.

If it is only comparing like with like (or very near like) why can't "monkeys" do it?

Having read the ONS definitions and how the data is engineered, it is deliberately complex and designed to obsfuscate leaving much room for "necessary" adjustment.

The inevitable "sale" in furniture is hardly new.

Surprised the green tax removal didn't reflect in energy costs or has that been kept back for next months figures?

What do you want? A new index that monitors the cost of 1500 daily calories? I can get that for £1 walking through Asda's front door.

Inflation indices reflect the changing costs of stuff that we spend money on rather than making judgements about what's necessary for life.

He probably reads the Grauniad. Everyone there is constantly outraged that the official inflation statistics would dare take account of the average citizen, rather than basing it on the poster themselves.
