Nielsen Scanners

Hi
I have received a few emails from freebie sites suggesting I apply for a Neilson scanner -
"Sign up to Nielsen and they'll send you a free product scanner.Use it to scan in your supermarket shop when you get home and they'll give you free gifts for doing so.A great way to save money on your weekly shop."
Has anyone done this and if so was it worth it?
Thanks

I used to do it. I gave up as soon as I could cash out enough points. You used to get paid 75 points each weekly scan. At least with kantar and consumer pulse you can earn extra points with surveys and by joining panels. You would get yhe odd questionnaire but it took years rather than weeks to earn enough points to get a prize. the other problem is when they try to get the data from your scanner. people have complained they have called it at 2 and 3am. and if you have a phone with voicemail on your telephone line, you have to make sre you listen to them as it blocks their transmission.0 -
Thanks for the response. I don't like the idea of points as I have no idea of the value of a point. There is a lot of shopping in my household (8 people) to scan so I am thinking it is probably not worth the effort.0

Hi
We do it, and it's ok, just had a massive bale of towels for free. Sometimes we forget and they are quick to let you know. It's pretty good to get a decent thing for free though,

I've been doing it for about a year, got up to 8000 points, cashed them in for a panini grill thing and a toy and now i'm quitting. It's a bit of a chore scanning everything you buy after a while, and they constantly phone you to ask "why?" if you miss one. Just got annoying. The gifts you can buy aren't that good to be fair, unless you stick with it for years.

I have been doing it for 20 years!!!!
It is a chore and it takes ages for the points to mount up, but all the gifts are of good quality and in the past I have had luggage, various power tools, a CD/Tape/Radio, a Digital Radio, 2 large Le Creuset baking dishes and have just got a lovely Le Creuset frying pan, which retails at £90!!! (but that has taken me 2 years to save up for). It's not a "Banker" but every little helps.0 -
i have no doubt you could have earnt that £90 in far less time doing anything else
If you have any real value on your time and energy that could be better spent with friends and family youll avoid it.
this is from an ex scanner too.0
