Okay, this is probably on here somewhere, but how do I go about getting a financial adviser for free? I know I have to make sure they are "across the board" (is that right?) and fee free, but what else do I need to know?
I'm quite knowledgable about mortgages and am fairly sure I know what I want, but if someone can look up all the different options for me for free, then why not?
Do they do more than just tell you what you want, i.e. do they actually source out particular mortgages for you?
I don't need for a few months yet, but just trying to be prepared.
At the moment, I have a 4.59% 2 year fixed which I know is near perfect, but has to end.

IFAs are investment advisers. Is it really an IFA you want or a mortgage adviser?
IFAs can also hold mortgage authorisation but increasingly IFAs are dropping mortgages and leaving it to mortgage advisers (and this is likely to accelerate in the coming years if FSA proposals go ahead).
So, what you need is a whole of market, fees free mortgage adviser. There are a lot of them around but you may have to phone a few up to find one.Do they do more than just tell you what you want, i.e. do they actually source out particular mortgages for you?
They find out what you want, will help explain the options and costs (immediate and those over the years as sometimes cheap is not always as cheap as it looks), will recommend provider and product and do all the paperwork for you.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
