Married/want joint account and joint mortgage possible poor credit

A long time ago as a student I defaulted on OD, I have since paid that off and it doesnt seem to be on my credit record anymore. My DH looked at something and said it looks like my CR has improved...however I do not have credit cards or anything. I have been on electoral role in one spot for a number of years.

I want a joint account with my husband and I want to go on mortgage, but I don't want to ruin his credit rating, so not sure how to go about this! Can I ask his bank to put me on, but ask them not to go through with it - if my rating looks bad to them?

when we first got mortgage i was going to go on it but this debt was still on my record and we were quoted higher interest rates as such, now the mortage has been fixed for a number of years.....can I go on it? any ideas would be gratfully appreciated.

  • Just one question. Why do you want a joint account?

The easiest thing to do would be to actually check your credit file and see what is on there.

Get your reports from all 3 CRA's, Equifax, Experian and Call Credit (use Noddle for free for this one) and take it from there.

It may not be as bad as you think!
    :p
  • Thanks Beanie,I was hoping someone could tell me though if there is nothing on there, that does not mesn i have agood rating...i thought tohave a good rating you neededa creditcard
