Debt only really became a problem when my DH decided to go back to college in 2009 after he lost his job. He studied for 2 years & I made a decent wage & could just about manage the mortgage & living expenses BUT we both had a credit card, catologe account & really wasn't watching the pennies. My DH then got a job & we was about £6000 in debt which I thought was ok to say I was the only one earning. Anyway for some silly reason even tho we had 2 incomes we was adding to our debt & not reducing it. Then last April my DH lost his job again (not his fault) & my company was tupe over to a private company & I lost £500 a month
My DH is trying to get a job but unfortunatly not having much luck. I work full time while my DH looks after our 2 kids (8&3).
Anyway on Thursday I bit the bullet & worked through all the mail that has been piling up on my dining room table for the last 3months. I'm fed up of telling my kids not to answer the phone & worrying what bills my DH will see while I'm at work (he feels responsable for our debts & I really don't blame him but the letters upset him). So I contacted all our creditors & got up to date balances on our debts. I thought we was close to £16000 but its just under £12000. I have told them about our problems & had to do about 6 I&E all in a day BUT how great do I feel now
Nearly all our debts have been sold to DCA & they was fab they have all agreed to a monthly payment plan. And with it now being with a DCA there is no interest
I will now be debt free by the end of 2016 & then I'm going to be overpaying on my mortgage. Its not going to be a easy 3 years & I feel bad that I not beable to take my kids on holiday for the next 4 years but it will be worth it.
I saw a thread on here about working your bank account balance down to the nearest £10 & pay the rest to a debt so I have done that this morning
I only had 11p in my account but its a start.
Looking forward to the end of the month when my own DMP begins.

Hey, congrats on starting your debt free journey!
I notice that this is your first post so you might benefit from showing the lovely people on the main DFW board your SOA (statement of affairs) so they can give you some pointers.0
