Twitter Account Keeps Being "Reactivated"

Options
I had two Twitter accounts - one just for comping and a personal one. I decided to deactivate the comping one as I decided to do everything on the one account.

Deactivating was easy and Twitter said the account would be permanently deleted in 30 days.

However, twice now I have had emails saying that my account has been reactivated and that I can now log in etc. The emails are genuine.

Has this happened to anyone else? I just want the account deleted! This second time I'm wondering if the account has been hacked as someone posted a tweet saying "Hi!" (and it wasn't me!) I've revoked all app access etc.

It's just incredibly annoying. I just want the account gone!

Can you change the email address on the one you want to delete? It may be reactivating if you're receiving emails or whatever.
Change your password and then try again.

I don't know what else to suggest on that part. :(

I've never de-activated a Twitter account, but I did see someone yesterday (who hadn't tweeted in a while) post a Hi! tweet and then seconds later send a spammy direct message, so maybe it has been hacked.
  • My twitter account was hacked yesterday and exactly that happened- a "hi" tweet was sent (as though it was being tested) and then lots of spam was sent "by me". Fortunately my husband was on twitter at the time and I was able to get in and change the password very quickly.

It does sound as though you've been hacked. I'm wondering whether it was the twitter amazon competition which did give the app access to tweet from your account- am wondering if it is genuine (I've also changed my amazon password just in case)!

Thanks guys. I've changed the password and deactivated it again and I've changed my Amazon password too, just incase.

I wish Twitter would just delete the accounts instead of this 30 day deactivation thing!

Hope you get it sorted pet :) I think Facebook do the same - have a 30 day period incase you change your mind?

I wonder how hackers get in? I have different passwords now for all my social networking sites (Facebook/Twitter/Bloglovin' etc) because I am paranoid that if one gets hacked they will try to hack the others. With my Facebook account I have set up added security so if anyone tries to login to my account from a different computer, then a pin number will be sent to my mobile. I also have this for my google/gmail account too. It gives me peace of mind! :)
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

    Home Insurance Hacker!
i had an old twitter account that ive changed the name for about 5 times and i'm still getting emails from twitter with suggestions of who to follow and it's still classing the account as when it was first activated. It had been inactive for about 6 months and i logged in recently and it still works. I don't think the 30 day timeframe actually works
