NHS Pension - Part Time Work

Yes I think I see that but the handbook does not say that in a comprehensible manner and is misleading in saying that the pension will be calculated on the best pay for the last three years.
You are just conflating two different things: what is meant by ‘final’ and what is meant by ‘pay’ when it comes to determining pension benefits. ‘Final’ turns out to mean not literally 'final', but (in the 1995 section) the best of the last 3 years or (in the 2008 section) the average of the best consecutive 3 years in the last 10. 'Pay', in contrast, always means full or whole-time equivalent pay.
As such, going up a grade near the end will always boost your final pensionable pay regardless of whether you drop your hours at the same time to the effect of making your take-home pay no higher; if you do drop your hours though, then your total reckonable membership will be less than otherwise.0
