Yes, the OR can....and will, check these things....there are numerous ways available to them.

You need to be completely honest in your dealings with the OR...otherwise there are sanctions the OR can take.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • Sadly your parents are considered creditors the same as everyone else.
Please don't make up costs you don't have in order to give them money because that'll lead you to a whole heap of troubles :(

  • The O.R will ask for any rental agreement and bank statements for anything from 1 year upwards.
As said before you must be honest...believe me they will find anything you try to hide
  • Hi - I think given your circumstances - it appears you are currently technically homeless? Are you working? If not then the OR will not take a part of your benefits anyway.
The OR will only be interested in a surplus earned income and even if you are sofa surfing, the OR will think it perfectly reasonable that you offer an amount to cover food and accommodation to your friends. I would think the OR would also think it reasonable that you are allowed to save for a deposit for somewhere to live.
As other posters have said - you should be honest but you are allowed reasonable living expenses, you are not expected to be destitute and homeless.
Once you have agreed reasonable living expenses, there may be scope if you are extra frugal, to find a few pounds spare to offer your parents.
There are not 'allowances' as such but if you read the stickies at the top of the board you will find links to the guidance on what the OR will consider reasonable.

To add to Gardener's sage advice.....if you do 'give' money to your parents, this should not, in any way, show up officially.

  • The OR ask for a copy of any rental agreement, i had to send a copy of mine within 48 hrs of bankruptcy or they would contact my landlord / agent.

Mines has also asked for 12 months bank and credit card statements, copies of any loan or HP agreements and 3 months of payslips.

Then there is the PPI forms to complete. :)

Yes - to be clear - if you for example agree £270 a month for food - but you know you can manage on £220 - then you could 'save' the £50 to give to your parents - but as pointed out - the OR will not allow you an amount to give your parents as they are creditors, its about being extra frugal after you have agreed expenses with the OR
