You could go cross country to Reading, then catch the Gatwick train. Not sure if they run early enough for you though. If that route works, look to split the ticket at Banbury.

That was almost a good idea, to go via Reading. The fare would have been £96.50, but to get to Gatwick by 10am you need to catch the 8.34 from Reading, but the first train from Manchester to Reading, departs Manchester at 5.11am, arrives Reading at 8.39!

Fly from Manchester to Heathrow on one of these flights...

    Virgin dept. 07:25 arr. 08:25 - £34
    BA dept. 06:00 arr. 07:00 - £47

Train or tube to London Paddington.
Tube to London Victoria then the Gatwick Express.

Don't even think about flying to Heathrow. It's an hour to Gatwick by national express coach, even longer by train/tube.

I do this journey a lot. The simple route is the best.

    Piccadilly - Euston - Victoria - Gatwick.

Haven't checked the times but Piccadilly to Banbury (split ticket) then Chiltern to Marylebone and tube to Victoria for the Gatwick train might work - via Reading can be slow.

We are trying to get from Leeds to Liverpool on Sunday 2nd March - The return on Monday is only £23 for two of us, but increases to £59 on the Sunday - any ideas?

You mention return. Have you already bought the outward tickets?

If not, bear in mind that an Off Peak Return is only £34.10... that's £68.20 for two people.

If you do already have the outward tickets, then Advance Singles from Leeds to Liverpool on the 09:15 departure can be had for £11 each.
And on the 09:40 and 20:10 departures they are still available at £14 each.

Thank you - The Monday is cheap to return but going to Liverpool on the Sunday was dear. There were some first class but they were for the airport - can I continue onto Lime Street?

    Thanks again

    Jeppy :)

I've already shown you some cheap fares for the Sunday.

And no you cannot travel from the airport to Lime street without a ticket.

If you were to answer my question, I may be able to help more.
