Can I remove a default that was less than £500?

Hello all

This is my first post on the forums, i have been bad in the past with debts and paying them off but now I am saving for a house and need a good credit file.

I defaulted on a littlewoods catalogue payment of £174 back in 2009 the reason for this is because I was out of a job at the time and was finding it hard to pay it. The debt got passed onto Lowell portfolio ltd and they send me letters for the money. I managed to pay them in the end and that was the end of it. They added a settled default onto my credit file.

I'm now actively looking to move out of living with my parents and I think that the default will affect my chance of getting a good mortgage.

Is there anything I can do at all or send Lowell? I had a conversation with credit expert about it and they seem to think I can't get it taken off until it's expired.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks
Steve

Very unlikely to be able to get it removed.

However one thing to consider is whether the default date shown on your file is fair and reasonable. Lowell (and others) have a bad habit of incorrectly changing the default date when they purchase a debt. What is the date of default on your file? and when did you stop paying/get behind with repayments to very?

I strongly recommend you stop with this line of thinking and start working on rebuilding your creditworthiness.

So many people waste time trying to get defaults removed rather than do what they can to improve their credit files.

You should get yourself a credit card and pay it off in full every month.

over 3 year old default maybe possible to get a mortgage , speak to a broker
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
