Student Loans - Arrears question.

Greetings all,

I had a rather basic question I was hoping someone could help with.

I owed 11,000 pounds in student loans. I discovered I was 5,000 pounds in arrears because I was living abroad.

I went on to the student website and cleared the entire outstanding balance of 11,000 pounds. However even though the 11,000 balance is now cleared, it's still showing the 5,000 in arrears?

Do I have to pay the 5,000 pounds IN ADDITION to the 11,000 balance, or is the 5,000 figure part of the 11,000?

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Pete
