Help I have got myself into a complete pickle
I am getting married in August and still have not got my wedding dress.
Actually the whole idea sends me running for my duvet. This will be my first marriage, I will be 45, size 18, large bust, female that normally is never normally seen in a dress. I hate all the attention the bride will get. I am starting to wish I had decided to get married without any fuss.
In my head, I would either like a short dress (50's style) or a long shift dress with a matching lace coat.
I just feel bombarded with slim brides, and feel so big which I never normally do. While I am doing more exercise and diet, I want a dress that suits me now, then if I lose anything will be a bonus.
Also has anyone bought their dress on their own without any friends helping?
I suppose it does not help that I have just been made redundant!!!
Please any words of encouragement!!
Thanks
Susanna

Hi Susanna,
I'm a size 20 at the moment and my dress is a 22, there is always something out there for everyone

I was a size 22, and went for a fishtail style dress (which you could try too - busty girls can work it!). It does take a bit more hunting, but try not to be disheartened. Find a plus size specialist shop, because they'll have all different styles, and not be so adamant about what you 'should' wear. Once you know the style that suits you, you can trawl away on the internet
I had considered trying to diet, but decided not to stress myself out, because I've always been overweight, so being that size in my wedding dress would be a true representation of me. I felt like a princess!0 -

Good on you!! I bought my dress a while ago in a sample sale, I was a size 20 when I tried it on and I needed to lose an inch to make it fit. I ballooned to a size 24 and over the last couple of months I've managed to lose 1 1/2 stone and the dress fits me perfectlyBut good on you for deciding not to lose weight and just be yourself because that is what your husband loves you for.

If you are near London then I recommend Heavenly Bodies Bridal which is a specialist plus sized shop, the lady who helped me there was amazing. She really helped me to see what sort of styles and shapes would suit me.
For reference I'm a size 22/24 normally and she made me feel really positive about my body.
If you're looking online then the Sonsie by Veroma range is a plus size range that's very good, I don't know if they have anything you'll like though.
Good luck! Our wedding is in 3 weeks :eek:0 -
are you getting married in a church? even if you are, why not get a very nice shift dress and coat? Maybe book a personal shopper day at John lewis or debenhams and try various options on.
I am just happy they bought out Wedding day ugg boots as I can't see me wearing a dress and if I did, I could still be me in the flash uggs!0 -
Whatever you do don't go empire line, they're so unflattering but everyone who's never been big thinks us larger ladies should wear them, it makes me fume!
Simply Be have a lovely range of dresses, I'm a chesty 14 and find their stuff is cut really well

Thank you ladies, I think I my imagination was running away with me. I have made an appointment with Celebration Village in Manchester (has anyone been there) next week. I think once I have tried on dresses that actually fits me, I will feel a bit better. I little more under control.
Thank you again

You must have had one in a millionglad to hear it looked good!
Mind you there's also degrees of empire line...the ones that are simply high-waisted look OK, but I've never been able to get away with the ones that flare from immediately underbust
