recruitment agencies - no response ?

I recently had a call from a so called reputable job agency,
I agreed for the said RA to send my CV to the prospective employer,
I emailed the person at the RA, to find out if there was any feedback, no reply , after two emails, and one landline call to try to speak to the job consultant in question, (was fobbed off, saying he on other line)
all I wanted was some feedback, or an act of professionalism, reply to my email if nothing else,
is this behavior : typical , ?
is this your experience with recruitment agencies ?

Totally typical, I'm afraid.
I went to one all suited up, asking to speak to the recruitment consultant I'd sent my CV to about a job. ( I was already registered with them - well, I'd earlier sent them a CV by email after being told to do with that, with no follow-up from them).
Wouldn;t see me (the recruitment consultant was there). Was tyold they would get back to me. They did that one time, with feedback from the first CV I had emailed them (not the one I had sent in response to the jiob I had applied for).
I made some alterations in line with what they suggested, (as well as mentioning that I had sent a more recent CV to them with regards to the job I was applying for). Guess what, no further response from them at all. This was probably ten days ago now.
Waste of space. If you don't neatly fit their boxes, they've got no time for you whatsoever.
Several years ago, a recruitment consultant would want to see you face to face and often get you to do some computerised tests whilst you were there.
What has happened over the last few years?
Why are things so impersonal and crap nowadays?0 -
I've just got a position and have come in contact with a few agencies.
I'd avoid the big so called reputable ones. They're just playing the numbers game, putting as many people through as they dare to as many positions as possible.
If at all possible try and find someone who specialises in your chosen area of expertise or industry.
I had an interview on 20th December for a role that Pertemps put me forward for and haven't heard anything back, despite me going to a few different ones through them previously.0 -

Yes this is typical as Recruitment agencies don't do customer service for their candidates. Always amazes me because todays candidate could easily be their next weeks client. As I keep saying if I need to recruit and I have a choice between an agency that treated me courteously and one that treated me like c**p I might just have a choice.
As for getting hold of the recruitment consultant, just say you are an HR person calling from a leading blue chip company and have half a dozen vacancies that need filling immediately. I bet you will get a call back within 5 minutes.0 -
That's a good idea. I might try that myself.
And then let rip at them when they call back!0 -

did find above article useful too,
I was tempted to try some of your above tactics, I even thought about writing letter of complaint. After counting to 10, decided it was not worth the stamp cost.
working in a RA cannot be easy, but, some professional courtesy is definitely lacking by some0 -
I tried months ago with a agency i used to be with and since sending my cv and cover letter i haven't received anything and had the same thing when trying to ring them. its rubbish0

is dreadful service, like I say, if I had the will, I would write to these cowboys in person, great thing about the postman/post, you have to open the letter and read it, unlike email..0
