    Hi
I am no expert on this subject but after reading a thread on here I bought the Garmin I3. It is one of the cheaper sat navs on the market (about £90-100) but it has European maps and have found mine to be very reliable

It comes with in car charger and sucker pad, software and usb cable, just turn it on and away you go.

The following is a link to it on Amazon. I would do a few searches to check for the cheapest price. Also I purchased this over 6 months ago, there may be newer better value products on the market now.

    Thanks

    Thanks

i3's usually come with detailed maps of the UK and Ireland and just the major roads in europe so if you want detailed maps you have to buy them separately and put them on a transflash card ,AKA micro SD that you will also have to buy ..I am not too sure but I think the later i3's have their maps on internal memory and may not have a card slot but someone else may clarify this.

If you have a compatable mobile phone you can have Sat nav on that and I must say that owning quite a few different systems ( at the mo ,6 which i shall be selling as my latest one is a Smartphone ) I think this may the future of sat nav as you only have to look after one device so there is not the problem of theft from your car..

thanks i have a garmin i3 already but it freezes and crashes all the time.
i don't want to be stuck on little roads in france on my own with two kiddies.
not sure what to do as i don't feel ii can rely on my i3 any more and i don't have a compatible phone.

What firmware version are you using..go to : Settings/About.Software Version ,Some versions were problematic.

How about the Navman icn30 for £105.74 plus delivery from Microdirect? Probably an older model, but does have european maps. (edit 5 Jul - unfortunately now showing stock levels as 'call for availability', when I posted stock was showing = 44)
