The govt should have listened to the thousands of us in the industry who told them that the GD couldn't work - but the govt decided instead to listen only to large installers like British Gas....

Another govt charter for bankers and big corporations, rather than home owners/tenants and local businesses.

Will be going to a talk at Ecobuild this week on reenergising the GD, interesting to see what they say.
  • Last June I had a company called Get Green Today ltd. They took £349 off my credit card for an assessment. I was told it would be refunded when the works were done!! Someone visited the next week and took vague details of an assessment. Then in September I had another assessor from Lets Go Green who said the details were passed to them and apologized for delay. The assessor took specific measurements and left saying I would get a report about what works would go ahead. To date I have heard from neither company and they are not replying to my e-mails. What should I do? Has anyone had the same problem.:(
  • Jan 2013 paid British Gas £99.00 for a GD EPC and OA. Sucked in to the idea that a pensioner could benifit from external insulation on a 100 year old house. Propaganda from government gave me the idea i could be warm in the winter, and it would be financed. I complained to BG that they would not be GD in norfolk , in the end they gave me my money back.TA. Now it seems that I dont spend enough on electricity a month to pay back the finance.I should have storage heaters instead of a nice new gas boiler from BG.To sum up, I wasted 14months in the hope that I might have some help to insulate a pensioners 100 yr old property. I suppose I am the fool to fall for the government crap......

I know it doesn't help you now, but I've found the external solid wall insulation has been amazing...not just propaganda. It's really cut down on my oil bill (although we have had a mild winter, admittedly), and I don't get mould where there was once condensation on the freezing cold walls.

Although the Green Deal finance has been a total farce, I've found just paying for it outright has been easy, straightforward and cost effective. I also live in Norfolk, but out of the long list of providers picked a local(ish) company in Suffolk (Aran Services) who were fantastic and handled everything, including the £650 cash back. I'm glad I didn't pick one of the big corporations.
  • I tried to get greendeal but was turned down as I am with Spark Energy not one of the BIG 6 . I pay £213 pm but would need to pay £265 to the cheapest BIG 6 provider. So I would need to pat £50 on top of the greendeal tariff of £90pm calculated by my assessor

This is going to sound like sour grapes - and it is - but the government recently announced they were raising the Green Deal cashback for solid wall insulation from £650 to £4000. Not only that, but they're backdating it to Dec 13th!

Typically my cashback came through a few weeks before the cut off, but this seems grossly unfair. I wouldn't have minded if they'd increased the cashback for a few hundred pounds - but by £3350 - come on!!

Have I got any grounds for complaint - like when the government dropped the FIT suddenly and then extended it?

Or is it, as I suspect, just tough luck?

    Cheers

You don't need to be with the big six to get a green deal plan, the green deal has nothing to do with the big six energy companies. Try a different green deal provider who isn't one of the big six

It would only be 50% of your contribution upto £4000 so you would have had to contribute more than £1300 to be better off and since the increase in cashback there was only a narrow time when your could claim both ECO and the green deal cashback.

Out of interest how much did the work cost, how much to ECO contribute and how much did you pay?

Any complaints would go to Green Deal Oversight and Registration Body (GDORB)

    Hi,

The total was £6796, with £3,750 of ECO funding and the rest (£3,198) paid by me. So presumably I could have got 50% of the £3198 in cashback - ie. £1599?
I've already contacted the green deal admin and they've basically said tough, so I suppose I've got nothing to lose by going to the GDORB?

In theory yes, but the price paid for ECO varies week by week and during the short time you could get both the increased cash back and ECO grant the ECO payments were very bad. So imo your probably not much worse off.

But GDORB are the ones who oversea everything green deal and ECO so they'd be the ones to go for more information, but i wouldn't hold your breath the increases in green deal cashback is an attempt to get more people getting these green deal measures done and once you've done it unfortunately they probably wont care... but its still worth a try!
