Tracker mortgage we got in 2010 is looking pretty sweet right now... mortgage paid off in 9 years 1 month by current repayment scheduling!

Many have done very nicely out of the recession. Whether it is something to brag about is another matter.

I pretend to be slightly embarrassed about how great the recession has been.

I don't feel too bad because most people in the UK have gone from being the richest in the world to still being the richest in the world.

I don't see a problem with coming onto a dedicated personal finance forum and talking out your individual personal finances. While posting success stories on the debtors and bankrupt board could be rather crass (unless it's related to getting out from under a mountain of debt yourself) but posting elsewhere is fine.

I never see complaints about people posting financial details when it's about how badly they are doing. It seems that people love failure rather than success. Personally I want to hear from people who are doing well so that I can take their successful strategies and adapt my own financial plans accordingly.

I haven't! I have to give myself at fail at only 3/10:

    - Other than SS ISA's, I didn't invest anything in the ftse below the 5,000 level.

    - Dilly dallied about trying to buy the 'right' property(ies) and ended buying none.

Looking back I find it hard to believe I was so foolish, it isn't as if I didn't know what I should have been doing.

Just paying a fraction of what you were expecting to pay on your mortgage for 5 years or so is not financial planning. It was just accidentally being in the right place at the right time. Many seem to think they are financial geniuses, where in most cases it was pure luck.
