This could totally be in the wrong category but...
I'm trying to save a bit of money by making my own cake (plus I enjoy it) for my partners 30th.
I want to have an 'explosion' type thing with wire spray coming out.
My question is, to make the icing curve where the explosion starts should I place freshly shaped icing on to cake or store it so it hardens (maybe over rolling pin to curve) then place on after few days?
Which is best? Thankyou

Have you seen something similar? Just I have no idea what you mean by the "icing curve"; perhaps if you could provide a link or a photo then we could help you more. Usually wire sprays have a base that is iced onto the cake.0 -
Haha. Sorry. I realise now how much sense I haven't made sense!! Lol. Kind of like this but slightly bigger 'triangles' where the spray comes out

You will have to cut the icing when it is on the cake.
If you want a pop out effect, you are going to have to cut at least the top layer of icing - you can't just stick it on as it won't stand up (even with pre-hardening) without the layer around it, and will fall off/over and won't look anything like you want it to.
If you want a jagged edge, just cut with a rotary cutter with a jagged edge blade? you can pick them up from most places for maybe a quid?0 -
Put an initial covering of ready to roll icing on the cake, make another thin cover and cut a '*' shape in the icing, put this on top of cake and trim round edge, peel back segmants of icing and put tips of triangle on cake for stability tada - ready for your explosion!0

If you don't want to cut into the icing as per the tutorial, I would get a small cake drum, your coloured icing and some gum tragacanth or tylo powder. this will give you solid exploding pieces of fondant. Attach these when dry to the outer edge of the cake drum and put whatever it is you want to put inside the opening.0
