Old Style Cookery

Options
A sense of humour and broad shoulders! :D

You are quite right, planning, organisational skills are essential really if you want to be able to cope with most things.

But you also have to factor in circumstance and motivation - for my parents and before, Old Style wasn't a *choice*, it was a way of life! Stretching that Sunday roast wasn't done to from a need to be organised, but as a means of keeping starvation at bay and making every tiny morsel count!! Today, some people are turning to OS out of choice, some out of need, some out of nostalgia, some out of dire need (!) and some out of ethics and I'm sure there are other reasons too.

If you still have older female relatives, you'll need good listening skills and a lot of patience and time to *listen* to what they have to say and how they coped!

It's very sad to note that these days, few people have the time to listen to the elderly and hear how things were traditionally done - all those precious nuggests of information and tips going to waste! Whole generations (covering centuries!!!) of learning through trial and error being passed down potentially being lost forever in a want-it-all-want-it-in-5-minutes modern lifestyles. So, I would say ... attitude is a key component ;)

Thankfully, another essential component to being Old Style is ....

.... moneysavingexpert.com :D:D:D (Thank you, Mr Lewis! :T ) And all the wonderful people who contribute their knowledge and share their experiences in a language we can all understand - thank you OS'ers :D :T

And the Board Guides, who keep it all together :D :T
