Selling PS3 Slim and 1TB HDD

Options
Hi, due to financial issues I'm looking to sell an unboxed slimline PS3 with all cables and 1 controller complete with a 1TB HDD ( its external but due to a eSata mod, it is seen by the PS3 as being internal ) - which leaves about 930GB for game installs. What would be a recommended sale price for this? I was thinking £160?

You can buy slim PS3 consoles for less than £120 and you can get a superslim 500GB PS3 for around £200 new, £150 used. You can easily get a PS3 for less than £100 on ebay. Most people won't want a modded console and will have no need for a 1TB hard drive.

You're also limited to where you can sell the console. For a start, ebay is not an option. So not sure how easily you'll be able to sell that especially for £160.

Its not modded in the strictest sense - it still runs the official firmware, PSN etc. Basically, the panel on the bottom right which houses the harddrive ( a small thin piece of plastic ) has been changed to one which has an eSata port to enable external drives to be used as internal. It wont run illegal ISO's etc.

Stick it on Gumtree and try your luck. I would likely expect to be knocked down on your price though. As a previous poster says, 1TB will seem a bit irrelevant to most people. Best of luck to you though

It's still modded though. It doesn't matter how, modded consoles are not allowed on ebay and most people won't want one that is modded in any way. For those who don't know much about modded consoles they'd be thinking along the lines of the console has been tampered with, illegal, won't be able to game online, no warranty, might not be done right and could cause problems etc.

Even without saying it's modded, most people will know the different hard drive sizes (or looking through listed items will see repeated HDD sizes) or be looking for a specific hard drive size and when they see 1TB they'll know it's been replaced. That alone can lead to thoughts such as no warranty, tampered with and wondering why the hard drive was switched etc.

You will be lucky to sell a modded console. You cant sell on ebay and most shops will say no.

Best bet is gumtree/craigslist or facebook

Its not modded in that its only a connector \ extender that's been put into the existing internal socket to give an output on the exterior of the case that such a drive can then be connected to -- much like someone plugging a external card reader into a usb port to then put a memory card in..

reckon in 5 mins the op could remove that socket and put the original caddy back in - there hasn't been any removal of the main case and original seals would be still intact..

PS3 hard drives are user changeable with NO IMPACT to warranty...

Heres an example of what the OP has added to the machine.. It can easily be added and removed from the system by the end user. Its not a modification.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Daditong-Serial-Eata-Builtin-Expander/dp/B009GDTIPA/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1392220566&sr=8-7&keywords=ps3+esata

If the OP was to revert back to the 'stock' configuration and include in the description of this option, then most people would understand what was on offer...

I said what other people may be thinking. Regardless of how it is not everyone is clued up on consoles/mods/extras and they're not going to even bother to contact the seller if they think it's a risk/dodgy/un-needed extra.

After all, you want a normal PS3, don't know much about consoles and see one that says a strange sized hard drive and/or the word modded. You may think it's illegal. Why would you contact them? You wouldn't, you'd stay well away.

If someone reported an ebay listing with that ebay would remove it. It's not the same as a normal PS3; they couldn't care less how easy it is to remove or how legal. To them it's a mod and that's not allowed. They're covering themselves just in case.

If it's going to be sold like that it'll be much harder to sell. If put back to how it was then it'll be easy to sell, but it's not likely you'll get £160 for it.
