Afternoon all.
I hope I’ve posted in the right section of the forum. Only looking for people’s experiences.
I’ve been a dental phobic for the past 15 years. In this time, I must have gone to the dentist maybe twice, Was told I needed a lot of work done.
(Wisdom teeth have weakened other teeth so have a few cracked ones.)
Anyway, In the past six months I’ve managed to find a dentist who has experience with dental phobia’s and I managed to have x-rays done with the help of diazepam. Results being I need to have 4 teeth removed to make room in my mouth (The cracked ones). I’ve been referred to the hospital for IV sedation to remove these.
Now, I’m terrified and ready to wimp out of the appointment. I’m also needle phobic which isn’t helping. I’m so worried that I’m not eating, sleeping ect. My appointment is in just over two weeks.
I’m hoping someone can truthfully explain to me, What they experienced whilst having this type of work done. Everywhere I have read, or looked I only get an answer of, I don’t remember it.

Hi,
I too am very scared of dentists. I struggle to eat or sleep and the day before I am on the loo atleast 5 times. I recently had to go to the dentist because i needed a root filling done on my front tooth. I was petrified, took OH with me. They injected me {I'm not scared of needles anymore} and after that the anxiety was gone, I laid back and let them do what they needed, and I kid you not I was out within 15mins!
The anticipation is definitely worse than the actual doing it, could you practice some meditation or relaxation techniques before you go in that you could try whilst in the chair? I took a worry stone in with me, and it helped a tiny bit. You have to tell yourself that the pain you endure now isn't worth putting off your appointments {I rearranged my root filling one 3 times!}PAD 2023 Debt total as of Dec 2022 £18,988.63*April £17,711.03
