Consolidation loans

  • Yes, sorry. No we don't.
  • If they are taking your husband's CCJ's into account, then you are associated with him via the credit reference agencies. To be associated with him, you must have at least one joint account, mortgage, etc.

And with CCJ's, I'm afraid that's any chance of a loan out of the window for you (or him).

Oh no, nothing like that. I tried to apply for a loan last year and was told I couldn't because of an affiliation, which I think has something to do with my husband who has CCJs? I'm no expert on this, so I have no idea how this works - I'm assuming because we come under the same address, then this would go against me?

Your husband's details would only come up in your credit search if you are in some way financially linked - so joint current account or mortgage.

If you've got no financial link then his details won't appear even though he lives at the same address.
  • No, we don't have anything like that - so why else would they associate me with him?
  • Did you apply to your own bank last time and it was them who rejected you? If so then it could be their own internal systems that are linking you if he has an account with them as well.
  • Yes it was my own bank but I bank with First Direct and he's with Natwest?

Is there anyway I can become 'unassociated'? I'm guessing not.

To become unassociated, firstly you need to find out how you are associated.

Contact the credit reference agencies to see your file.

  • So you have a good salary but have run up 13k of credit card debt. That suggests overspending. As does your husband having CCJs. This is what needs to be sorted out, then you will have the money to start repaying the debts faster, your credit record will start improving and at some point you will be able to get a consolidation loan at a reasonable rate for the amount that is left.
