Trying to make a better life

Ok, so here goes I've been lurking around for a while now and thought I would finally take the plunge and write my own diary to help me focus on paying off our debts and making a better life for our family.

Have just worked out that in total we owe £23418.75:eek: we have managed previously to get this down to £18000 so I know we can do it. We just need to be focused. I see it as a long term goal to reduce our debts it took us years to get this debt it will take us years to pay it off. I'm planning on frugal living but the reason we have failed before is because we've tried to cut everything out and I now realise this is no way to live. So we will have the odd days/meals out and holidays but it will all be paid for up front no putting it on the credit card and worrying about it later.

A bit about myself I am married and have two children a very energetic two year old and a four month old. I am currently on maternity leave so money will be tight until I go back but as long as we pay off as much as we can in the meantime and don't increase the debt I will be a happy lady:)

  • Thanks jwil. Not much to report on my first day, had £10.42 in my paypal account from something I sold last week so transferred that into my bank account and then paid it off the smaller credit card. The 0% is due to expire next month so trying to pay this one first. Also a family member owes us some money which we will hopefully get at the end of the month this will also go towards that credit card.

Plan tomorrow is to take pics of things to sell of fleabay to upload this weekend. Sort out clothes to take to cash for clothes which are not good enough to sell I'll then take them Wednesday.

Have already done the weekly shop so should have enough to last us the week with maybe a top up shop in the week for fruit. But will go armed with a list and not get distracted and will also go alone.:)
  • Good luck on your journey BTTF! I also have large credit card debt and two small children. I'm subscribing to follow your story :)
