short term loans

Sorry to hijack your thread but I am looking for something similar. We are remortgaging at the end of August when our old deal tie-in period finishes and are borrowing an extra 4K to cover the cost of a medical operation. The problem lies in the fact that the op has been brought forward to mid July so we need to get our hands on the 4K six weeks earlier.
We need a loan over a very short period and I was wondering what the best way to do it would be ?
Any advice much appreciated.

Again you need to look for a 'flexible' loan that allows penalty free payments. Over such a short period, the slightly higher interest you will pay will be more than offset by not having to pay a 1-2 month interest penalty for settling the loan early.

Alternatively you might be able to pay for the operation on a 0% credit card?

Again I also suggest you apply for £5,000 because of the way the best buy tables work, a £5,000 loan usually works out cheaper than a £4k loan and if it is flexible you can repay the £1000 you don't need straight away.

Worth checking out Egg and Northern rock. With the latter you may have to say 'yes' to the payment protection insurance to get the best rate, then cancel it within 14 days of the loan starting and they can't then increase your rate.
