Hi,

We recently got engaged, and are planning on getting married in Italy.
I would like to hear from people who have achieved this as we have contacted a few wedding planners but they all say our budget is very limited and they are unable to help us.

Our budget it approx £6000 and we are inviting approx 30ppl. Due to children attending (and having children ourselves) it will need to be in the school holidays. we like the idea of the Amalfi coast, but are open to other ideas.

can I ask those of you who married in Italy what it cost you, did you use a wedding planner we are unable to get out there before hand) and how stressful/stress free did you find it?

Thank you so much.

A hopeful, but overwhelmed, bride to be.

You will need to budget in £70. That's £35 for each of you to obtain a Certificate of No Impediment to your marriage from your local registrar? You should check with the Italian Authorities but I think this needs to have a validity of no more than 6 months before the wedding date.

You should also check if there will be any other costs associated with the marriage licence, ie translation or other document. Also very importantly, from where will you obtain a copy marriage certificate if you ever need one in the future . I would advise buying a couple extra at the time & storing them separately.

Hope you have a wonderful time.
  • Thanks for the tips! X
  • Have a quick look here:

And you may also want to include a trip to the embassy/consulate:

so the marriage is registered in the UK too.
They are usually on email & equally usually delighted to be part of a wedding, so long as they have enough notice!

All the best & I hope you have a *wonderful* day followed by many more of them!

I May be wrong but I think you can longer deposit a copy of your foreign marriage certificate here. It stopped some months ago.
Best thing to do is keep a few copies.
You may not need them now excepting for name changing but in the unfortunate but inevitable death of either of you, a few copies can be required to sort pensions, investments etc.
