Sometimes viruses etc are just a coincidence. My Macbook died completely last night (hard drive and logic board failure), and it would be easy to attribute it to a virus, but sure it was just a complete coincidence. Not impressed at having to shell out on a new laptop though...!

I think the virus may be a coincidence, sugarbabe61 - it's more likely you picked something up from another website than a post or picture on a forum. To be honest, I can't see how a post could transmit a virus - a pic, maybe, as it opens a new URL... So don't let it put you off visiting here :D:D

Hope you get the bug cleared up, sugarbabe61. :) Personally, I would try some of the other AVs available - I used AVast ages ago, and found it failed to pick up anything other than major viruses (malware / spyware etc it just didn't see). I like Kaspersky as well.

Avast gives me a report every so often of how effective it's been, and the last one confirmed that while my files had been okay, all the risks had been blocked from websites.

As I don't view dubious websites, it means that the attacks came from everyday normal websites.

Always worth running a boot scan every so often, it will pick up anything that has managed to get through and bury itself.

If my computer isn't acting normally after cleaning, restarting and scanning, I always check the boot scan in case.
  • Thanks for the replies. Hubby has sorted out all the malware etc ;) and as I said this may just be coincidence although this is a brand new laptop which I have only been using for a couple of weeks and not done much on it apart from comps and certainly not downloaded anything yet as still getting used to Windows 8.
