Credit checks for loans hurting chances

Hi all. About a month ago I was called by my bank Santander offering me up to £15,000 on a personal loan. I only decided to borrow £3,000. Last week I decided we needed more for home improvement projects so went back for a further £5,000 and when we made an application the bank manager was a bit worried but thought it should be okay as I'm a home owner and my Experian score is 999. He said the recent application shouldn't be a problem but 3 days later I got a call saying the loan was declined.

My question is, if I still wanted a loan, how long do I need to wait before applying with another bank?

The bank manager doesn't care for some daft 999 score, neither did the lending machine.

You score is something for you to cherish, but nobody else cares.

There are no strict rules on searches as each lender have their own systems but generally 6 month's should be ample for previous searches have less of an effect
