For best results use Delias 'all in one' sponge cake recipe, it never fails. I tend to double the mixture in her receipe and it makes a lovely sized cake, using 2 x 8" cake tins. (Try adding a splash of buttermilk too as this make the cake very moist)0

M&S do nice cakes. I had to buy two for my husband's birthday when I destroyed the ones I made.0

Delia's all in one receipe gets my vote, i recently made my first sponge cake using it and it turned out brilliantly.Snootchie Bootchies!0

... and they scanned a piccie of her son onto rice paper and put it on the cake
I would love to know how they did this! I make character cakes (e.g. last one was models of wallace and gromit sitting in arm chairs reading the paper and eating sandwiches) but have always thought that photo cakes are brilliant. This is going to sound thick, do you put the rice paper through the printer? Can you eat the ink from the printer? Or do you need special ink etc? Can you tell I am totally confused! Please advise, I am really intrigued! 0 0

I belive it's special rice paper, special ink and a special printer - I don't think it's something you could do at home. We often get fliers sent to the bakery advertising these systems for sale but they are *very* expensive, not really something that's worth investing in unless you know you're going to do enough cakes to make the money back.0
