                    Hi,
after now being seperated for two years and become completely fed up with throwing money into the rental market I'm wondering if it's actually feasible for me to get a morgage. I'm actually quite upset realising I've "wasted" £20,000 on someone elses morgage instead of what could have been my own.
I'm seperated, 50 years old, and have been in the contracting game for 15 years. I have never been out of employment between contracts for more than 2 weeks in these 15 years (apart from a year out I'd promised myself when I was 40).
The properties I'm looking at will be around the £100,000 mark, and I'd be putting up to £20,000 down as a deposit. I'm currently on £300 a day with a new 3 month rolling contract on a project that should guarantee work for at least 2 years.
As my age would be a consideration I presume the morgage would have to be repaid by pension age (whenever that will be). I've tried the morgage calculator sites but they dont seem to factor in age etc.
I'm going to book myself in for a chat with the people at Halifax to see what they offer/advise
Before I do that though any advice/guidance would be appreciated.
