should we tick those "send me email" boxes?

Hi,
When entering competitions does it make any difference to your chances of winning whether or not you tick the box asking if you want email updates of exciting new products? I'm not sure whether to tick them - I'm not keen on getting lots of emails about new products, but don't want to reduce my chances of winning either.:question::question::question:

11 If you opt in or out of their mailing / 3rd party mailings, does it affect your chances?
I ALWAYS indicate a big fat 'no' to both of those, unless it is something that I'd really like to hear more about or a comp you enter by signing up for their newsletter.

It should make no difference to whether you are included in the comp or not, although some smaller companies may break the rules. I have to say I’ve been really lucky with wins & it seems to have made no difference whatsoever to my chances by always opting out where I can. It just means that I end up with less spam & on less junk mail lists.

Without an insight into each and every company that runs a competition it would be really hard to tell. And of course, many who do would never admit to it.
I waver. Sometimes if it's something I really like I sign up then unsubscribe when the emails start coming through.
