Amazon dispatch date is not necessarily dispatch

Ordered something from market place on Amazon and the next day received an email from Amazon to say the item had been dispatched. Later that day was rung by company to say the time was no longer in stock and was no longer available and they cancelled the order. When I asked about the email confirming dispatch the company said said that
"dispatch meant that the Amazon system had detected the order had been moved from the 'Inbox' not necessarily dispatched!"
This may also explains why a few months ago in an order I received one email saying it it had been dispatched and 3 days later received another email from company saying it had been dispatched.
It would appear that that for non Amazon market place companies dispatch may not actually mean dispatch.

I guess it's same procedure with all big companies. They send dispatched mail by default....0

I believe that the sellers get the money when they despatch items (I've sold a few things myself).
This might be why a seller would be motivated to declare an item as despatched as early as possible when it actually wasn't.0 -
Same with ebay
If you print a postage label, it gets marked as dispatched, whether or not it actually has.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0
