How Can I 'Show My Personality' In Interviews ?

Hi Folk! :)

So I had a job interview last week, didn't get it, but good news! They want to interview me for another role in the company :T

The recruiter kindly called me and was really sweet, she said she liked me but the manager I had my second interview described me as 'driven, bright, intelligent' but said he didn't get a feel of my personality.

She called me with feedback for how I can prep for my next interview with them but in another team.

Feedback

1. They found me abit 'too corporate' said I was quite 'hard spoken' and that was great but I came across as almost 'too perfect' and in giving all the right answers they felt I was so well rehearsed that I didn't let my personality show.

2. Apparently I came across as 'too intelligent' almost ?! :s what's that and I have to remember when it's a senior manager they want to feel their not hiring someone who will get bored with the job ?! :s

3. Basically I don't show personality, manager said he struggled to have 'banter' with me and he kept trying to joke with me and apparently I wasn't responsive to his banter ?

Anyway in plain terms the HR lady said for the next interview I need to :loosen up a bit, chill out stop coming across as some robotic corporate person and just really show I'm a real human being!

My skills and everything are perfect now I need to show that I'm actually 'fun'

How can I show my personality in interviews and stop coming across as a robot.

What is the job and why do they think you need to have a "fun" personality to do it well?

Were you asked competency questions mainly?

If so I don't see how you can really show your personality with those types of questions. Most answers are practised for these situations.

Hi, the job was for a a business based role for one the big TV network/distribution(think Comcast, NBC Universal etc). Huge company.

I have a fashion history but the role is in business which is a new direction for me.

I did a Maths degree and did some banking internship at uni but went into fashion buying briefly this is a business role in a media environment but ultimately it is a business role.

I really, really don't know what they mean. It's so confusing.

I had an Interview for HSBC in the more Business/Global Markets/Corporate banking side of things. HSBC loved me, thought I was great and have asked me back for a 2nd interview

When I'm seated in front of a VP who is telling me he went to an Ivy League and worked at a big investment bank etc etc and was corporate himself

HOW AM I MEANT TO ACT ?!

I'm genuinely confused. Of course I did laugh, give good questions but ultimately i recognised it was an interview in the more serious side of the business.

How can I 'loosen up and show my personality' for interview two

Its just confusing because I obviously show i'm capable but apparently my personality is abit too up tight :(.

So how can I dumb myself down a little bit ? Should I have to dumb myself down ? :(

It's just really frustrating. Ultimately I'm a girl who just desperately wants a job, I'm trying to show I'm good enough, I know they got hundreds of applications and want to show I really do want the job, I'm capable

I prep, spend my last bit of money to get there, prepare do everything

and it's not 'oh you weren't good enough'

    it's a 'personality thing' :(

I just don't get how I'm supposed to show my personality when I'm being asked difficult competency questions and all this.

It's got me down a bit to be honest.

Feels like who I am and my self isnt good enough and I now need to dumb myself down and be fake :(

It was the 2nd interview with the VP so it was a mix of competency and the good old 'personality test'.

So he was testing my personality too and that was the feed back I got.

That was why I didn't get the job.

I went to interviews before where I wasn't prepared as much and they told me I came across as inexperienced.

I worked so hard, made the presentation they asked me to, did everything.

The thing is I DID laugh, I did speak about my hobbies but clearly not enough.

I've been reading about this 'personality test' and it seems they want someone they can have a beer with too and get to know you.

But really how can I now show that.

Got 3 interviews next week and I just want to do better :(

please give me any tips you can

Well you could actually dress as a clown and do balloon animals or you could actually take this criticism to the next interview and ask them what they mean by it.. add the bit about the balloons , but don't be sarky.. have a bit of a laugh about it
I am a bit of a loose cannon and in the past I have always had the belief that interviews work both ways. The interviewer is looking for the right person and you should be interviewing 'the interviewer ' to see if you want the job.

Just be yourself .. chill out and tell them what you expect from the job, tell them you want to work with them not for them..
    Good luck
