i've recently heard about a couple of websites that offer free downloads.

one a russian one but apparently there have been some legal problems...

the other, i can remember but i think it was a major record label offering their entire catalogue but the downloads had advertising tagged onto them??

can anyone suggest any legal, trouble free sites offering free downloads that offer a good range of mainstream music both past and present?

This is where i download music:
www.multiply.com you have to sign up, then you can just search and on the drop down menu click music

The livejournal one you have to join if you want to request a song. But you can just click tags then find your artist, and find the song.

Only if you're a- incredibly stupid b- blind could you get a virus from somewhere like limewire or any other torrent site

are these the file sharing type sites you can get in trouble for using?
