So the government are now paying to advertise HTB on TV.
They have draughted in Phil Spencer too.
So now not only are we backing mortgages, were paying to advertise the scheme.

Far from reducing it, like most of the advice, it seems the government are hell bent on involving as many people as possible.

Advice or opinion?
Governments are political animals. So obviously they'll wish to promote the scheme.0 -

if one is against the scheme then it is bad and should be stopped
if one is in favour then providing information about it as widely as possible is sensible
what is your point?0 -

There is an election to win after all, don't spare the horses, or the exchequers pockets whilst we still have our hands in them

My point is that it shouldn't be for the government to advertise and hope to sell, their policies on prime time TV at our expense. This isn't some kind of back end sky channel, it's ITV at prime time.
This is a lifetime commitment they are enticing people into. If people are ready to take that commitment, estate agents, the builders etc will make them aware of this, if they haven't already figured it out themselves. It's already advertised all over rightmove, primelocation etc. So advertising it on TV is only going to attract those who think "ooo, we'll have a go then" in reality.
I'm not even sure that I feel comfortable with the government advertising in such a way as to use words such as "dream home" and making out you too, can now live the dream if you sign up.
I don't like HTB. That's well known. But advertisments on the biggest commercial channel at prime time? That's one step I'm sure we'd all agree, deep down and ignoring forum politics, is taking things a litte too far.
Using a celeb to do the voiceover is just the icing on the cake.0 -

are you equally hostile to the government advertising (say) winter payments for pensioners, benefits in general, health services, bus passes, breast screening etc etc0 -

I can clearly see the difference between advertising polices you approve of and those you don't.
But frankly, I don't see the significance difference between the advocating of breast screening and providing happy health family homes
I am personally against HTB phases 2.0 -

I'm against it too, I feel the money should be going as guarantees for building social housing, not paying for mortgages.
If they were advertising that there were 100000 (or whatever) social properties for rent, so register with your council, I would approve of it, so I can't really disapprove with government advertising of housing that the government has chosen.

Well, for a start, it's the NHS that advertises breast screening not the Government.0
