Can I change my mind about total fitness membership??

On Friday I joined total fitness. I was there as I was taking part in a 12 week course I had signed up to. I went to speak to someone about membership and was told as it was the last day of January the joining few was only £5, and from the next day would be £65. This was at 7:20pm. I was told I had until 8pm to join. I said I was at another gym so they have deferred my start date until 1st march as I had to give a months notice at my current gym. I am now in a positron where I can't really afford the monthly membership, and do not want to be tied into it for a year. Is there anyway, as it has only been a week tomorrow and I am not actually starting my membership until March, that I can cancel? I have paid the £5 joining fee. I think it just all happened to quickly and they are very persuasive!!!! Please help!!!
