Comping on holiday

Options
The holiday season is almost upon us

We are really lucky that we have a motor home and never plan any holidays we get up on a morning and say "let's go away for a few days" usually we don't even know where we are going :rotfl:

In past years whilst my hubby has watched TV/DVDs on an evening, I have read or done puzzles ect, but now I am comping I thought I would treat myself to a cheap tablet (I don't want nowt flash as I will only use it while we are away ;) )

So does anyone comp on a KindleHD or HDX or maybe even a Hudl?
If so is it OK?
If not what other cheap tablet would you suggest?
Or would I be better off buying a wee net book?

Any info appreciated :D

Personally I cannot get on with the touchscreen system.I can if I have to but for comping it would have to be a cheap netbook.

I know some do comp via tablets but posting comps would be a nightmare for me via one.

Yes, the weather is getting almost balmy!!!!

I'm hoping not to feel the need to comp on holiday. :)

I don't do comps or own a tablet, but if I did, I would have a 10" tablet. I've used 7" tablets but they really are small and the size becomes annoying after using it for a while (for me at least).

Before making your decision, check to see if the comp sites have apps designed for tablets. If they have, it will make using a tablet easier. If they haven't, then you will have to do a lot of scrolling etc.

You might like to consider a Chromebook - essentially a laptop that only provides internet access (you can't install programs on them). They are selling like hot cakes on Amazon right now. You can install apps on them too. The price is a bit more than a cheapish tablet, but you might get more use out of it.

    Hope this helps?

My kids have the standard sized (7") Kindle Fires, and I've tried to comp on these with limited success. Facebook apps are a nightmare as I cannot load them; standard website comps are normally OK but take an age to fill in and move through the forms.
The only time I find using the Kindle an advantage is when doing the mag dailies once the tick boxes have finished and the videos start - the videos just don't play at all so you go straight to "enter competition" much like on Womens Weekly.
If I had the choice I'd go for a laptop over a tablet any day.

I have just been away and did some comps, ipad was really frustrating so I would go for a laptop every time, no contest :)

I would get a small laptop rather than a netbook...I hate netbooks with a passion, they are nightmarishly slow!!

I wouldn't want to do it with a tablet, I would find the touchscreen too frustrating.

I do some comping on my smartphone (5" screen) and some on my Nexus 7. It's OK. If I had the option I would go for my laptop each time.

  • I've tried doing a few comps on a Hudl and it seemed fine. It was one I was having a play with after I gave it to my mum so I didn't spend a lot of time on it though. I've not used a tablet much before though so I found not having a keyboard a bit difficult.

When I'm away I tend to us an old (4 years) netbook I have. I can use chrome so have access to all my bookmarks, and I also have roboform on it so have access to all my password/forms etc. I also take a usb mouse along as well so I don't have to bother with the trackpad. It was running really slow, but a couple of days ago I spent £15 on an extra 1gb of ram and now it is speeding along!
Thanks to all OPs and everyone who helps/posts etc!!:T

I don't find a tablet particularly easy to comp on, but it does become easier if you buy a compatible bluetooth keyboard for the tablet... :)

I go caravanning all around the country and take my laptop with me, I have a mobile dongle that allows me to connect to internet nearly every where and it is surprising how many sites now have Wifi. we don't use club sites only CLs and even these have free Wifi on some of the better CLs.
I do it just for fun and whatever I win is a bonus
