I am meeting him face to face but not until next week and I just wanted to get some idea to start with. To be honest I think email is a great way to start as they can't just use lots of large words or technical terms that bamboozle you and make you come away feeling slightly dazed and overloaded with information, by email I get my time to think over their response and investigate anything I don't understand before re-clarifying it with them.
I also have documentation of what was said!
