Hi all,
I would like to purchase some multi-vitamin & Mineral Supplements and wondered if anybody had any recommendations of retailers or products? It is very difficult to compare products as they are not like for like with so many different components and amounts of that component. :mad:So it's not just about price. Is there anyone out there knowledgable on the subject?:T
Many thanks

It's said that tablets are far less absorbable and usable by the body than real food because of the forms that they are presented in.
Topping up key nutrients such as Magnesium, Selenium, Zinc does help IMO. The co enzyme forms of the key B vitamins such as B6 (pyridoxal 5 phosphate, P5P), Folate/folic acic (L-Methylfolate) and B12 (Methylcobalamin) are also very beneficial because they reduce heart disease risk via homocysteine reduction. I take decent quantities of these well above RDA levels. Only P5P/B6 you need to be careful with, folate and B12 are fine in high dosages apart from folate potentially masking B12 deficiency. I take 20mg of Methylcobalamin (B12) /day which is a massive amount above the RDA. It benefits me a lot, restoring my body clock and helping me sleep far better than I have done in the last 20 years. 5mg or 1mg might be enough for people without the high demands that my body has. I also take B1 (Benfotiamine) 250mg twice daily for it's AGE benefits and because I am diabetic.
I take the 4 B vits separately and Magnesium and also take a multi called Life Extension Two-per-day which is fairly comprehensive but I might cancel that to save money. It does contain 300mcg of methycobalamin (B12) It does contain alpha lipoic acid which is a strong anti oxidant, which I also take separately @ 2 x 300mg /day. It's fairly decent but not perfect because it doesn't contain the co enzyme forms of the important b vits, only B12.
Do not overlook iodine! Lugols iodine. Read up on it's beneficial effects for women.
These are my own thoughts and may not be correct. I am no expert.0 -
I would suggest a visit to a local food health shop (not one of the big chains) I have found that this is where you can get some really good informative advice re RDA levels and brands to buy/avoid. Personally I have found no hard sale this way and if a cheaper product is deemed to be better that is the product that is recommended.0

I agree with above. I personally use solgar brand and I use capsules rather than tablets but it's all a personal choice....
Good luck0 -

Like some of the people mentioned in this thread, I use Solgar too.
These are three that I liked.
Vitamin C Capsules
Vitamin D3 1000 IU Tablets
Skin, Hair, Nails
I also heard their new whey protein has really impressive results. Has anyone tried it yet?0 -
For D3 I prefer drops. I would think that it works out cheaper and it's easier to tailor it to my needs. I got the last bottle on Amazon for £9 delivered.
Vit C I buy in 1 Kg or 2Kg packets and take 9g x3 a day. From Trade Ingredients.
However this and numerous other threads seem to be being bumped with surreptitious Spam.0 -
any suggestions on skin, hair and nail suppliments?
and before anyone says it, yes i drink plenty of water and eat fruit and veg. but i feel a little help.SPC 0370 -
Skin, Bone Soup broth is recommended. Glycine amino acids are beneficial and Bone soup broth contains a lot of it which is probably why it is recommended. Biotin is recommend for the hair. It is meant to increase it's growth. I cannot say that I noticed any effect, however I don't need my hair growing any faster than it does already.0
