About once a week I export my bookmarks to a file in case I "lose" them, or "lose" the browser. Look for "export bookmarks" or "export favorites" in your browser help section.
(As a second stage I email the file to myself as an attachment so they are backed up in the "cloud" in case I lose the whole PC)
CHROME
Click the Chrome menu (top right) on the browser toolbar.
Select Bookmarks.
Select Bookmark manager.
Click the Organize menu in the manager.
Select Export bookmarks.
Chrome will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, which you can then import into another browser.
INTERNET EXPLORER
To back up your favourites
1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
2. Click the Favourites button Favourites button.
3. Click the down-arrow next to "Add to favourites", then select "Import and export".
4. Select "Export to a file", then click "Next".
5.Select Favourites (and any other settings) that you'd like to export, then click Next.
6.Click Browse, select a file or drive to export your favourites to, then enter a name for your bookmarks file. Click Save when you’ve finished.
(For example, after you click Browse, select Documents, then enter the file name “bookmarks”. Your bookmarks will be saved in your Documents folder).
7.Click Export, then click Finish.
PS. Always have 2 browsers on your PC.
eg. If Chrome fails you can download a replacement using IE and vice versa.0 -
Thank you for all your help, as ever it is very much appreciated! I have safari and explorer downloaded to I just hate them but I wasn't even aware I could export my bookmarks elsewhere and never even thought about saving them. Not sure what's happening as I was using chrome then it went really slow. And crashed the laptop. Tried to reload it and crashed again. So uninstalled it, virus scan is fine, defraged laptop and all was fine, tried to re download chrome and then as soon as I tried to load it my laptop crashed again?? Eek!2013 - 86 | 2014 - 127 | 2015 - 39 | 2016 - 22 | 2017 - 10 | 2018 - 56 | 2019 - 16 | 2020 - 4 | 2021 - 5 | 2022 - 1 win0

If you were logged into chrome, then the bookmarks etc should save to your profile. Therefore if you log into chrome on another machine your bookmarks should appear. You could then still export them as per one-eye's post. Thanks to all OPs and everyone who helps/posts etc!!:T0

If you have a Google + and Gmail accounts, you can automatically back up your Chrome browsers bookmarks and settings by simply logging into your Chrome browser with your Google + account user name and password. Now all your bookmarks will be synced with Google + (in the cloud!
) and any other device (such as a tablet in my case) that has Chrome browser installed and is also logged in to google + will have the same settings and bookmarks.
You can choose what to sync in the Chrome settings.
