  • I don't want to disappoint you - but it could be a cheque that is for someone else with the same or similar name. I have a very common surname and my husband and I once had a large amount of money put into our account by Essex County Council. We didn't try keeping it. I reported it to the bank as I felt sorry for the true owner.

I had a £25 cheque turn up once with no comp slip or letter, but think it was from one of the companies that does the magazine wins. It may be something like that, but I'd be tempted to get hold of a phone number (they seem to be on twitter too) and double check where it's from.

Opened an envelope to find a cheque for £150 inside - no explanation, no slip, just a cheque. Not that I'm complaining of course :-) But I'd love to know where it came from, the envelope is labelled 'Bell Pottinger' and the cheque is printed 'for an on behalf of Bell Pottinger' - but I can't find such a competition on these forums, nor from a quick Google. Any ideas, anyone? :-)

I had a cheque for £250 once, from a Bauer Media company (who are linked with radio competitons) but no congratulations letter or notification - just the cheque! Handy just before Christmas!
