You can say how great East lothian is all you like. I went there in summer and nearly froze to death lol.

Ok, it was Edinburgh, not EL but close enough. And was June/july.

I'm sure one summer visit is worth far more than a couple of hundred years of weather records.

Just my tuppence worth, but don't move away permanetly from the UK. My Aunt and Uncle sold a huge house in Watford, and bought a huge house in Mallorca.

They had nothing to come back to when they got infirm and needed NHS help.
They just wanted to posh it up, but when it came to the crunch, there was nobody to drive them around when the eyesight failed, cancer kicked in etc.

If only they had kept a flat in the UK and a smaller place abroad, it would be been less of a burden for the family. They had loads of new gin friends in Mallorca, but they were not there for them in the end. I suggest that it would be better to keep ties with family and the home country if only a little bit.

Always a wise idea to keep a foothold.

Dunbar, East Lothian, average annual rainfall 22". Is it drier where you live?

Probably not, gotta look it up. But I can say you are darker. And colder. so 2 out of 3.

So I choose to go to warmer places when on holiday now, and scotland does not qualify.

It doesn't have to be hot mind you (just back from a WE in Cannes with a high of 59F).

I've worked in Dunbar, quite a nice little town.

I worked on the landfill, and when you combine that with the east coast mainline, the A1, the blue circle works and not forgetting teh nuclear power station there's not much you're missing.

    .. snip ...

Final point - consider selling you current house sooner rather than later and renting if necessary. The UK, particularly around the South, is undergoing a housing bubble and like all bubbles it will not last for ever.

I would start getting ready to sell over the period perhaps after you start part time. I would suspect that keeping an eye on house prices both at home and in some of your suggested destinations should allow you to get the best comparative.

I can't see the bubble popping until 2015 - and I am not even sure that most of the country has experienced a bubble - so don't be too hasty
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

You miss the point: East Lothian is dry - Dunbar is cited only because that's where the weather station is. Personally I'd choose North Berwick.

Annual average sunshine 1523 hours. Is it lighter where you live?
