in Cutting tax
Hi all, hope you can help. I'm very confused with the tax thing and was hoping I could get some advice from here....
I currently work full time for the local council. I am due to start some work for my father and will be paid a small amount and in the future take over the company. I haven't a clue where to start!!
My father works for himself and wants to pay me monthly but for me to declare the tax etc....I guess this means for me to set up my own business? but I'm not really sure..
Hope somebody can help

You will be an employee of his company?http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employment-status/
If so, PAYE will operate? http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/check-multiple-codes.htm
If you are self employed you will need to contact HMRC. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/working/intro/selfemployed.htm0 -
for the avoidance of doubt it is almost certain you will be an employee of your father's company. It would be wrong for you to claim self employment
If your father's company does not already have employees then he will need to register for PAYE and start to operate it for any payments made to you. These can be irregular frequency if you don't do work for him every week/month but they must go via PAYE
this thread covers similar ground and the final post lists software that is suitable for father's needs if he does not already have a payroll
