Online Application Form Won't Open Properley!

Options
Hi, I just been emailed an application form to complete online and email back.

The application form was emailed to me in .docx format.

It opens up fine in Microsoft Word Viewer, but I can't edit it in Word Viewer as when I click on File the 'open form for editing' is greyed out for some reason.

So I've tried saving it in Word but when I open it its all muddled up with bits missing.

I've ended up trying to do it in Skydrive in my email account, but even in Skydrive there's parts of it missing.

Can anyone advise what I need to do? Alls I want to do is fill it in and email it back, and I've spend the best part of today trying to do that but for want of a better phrase 'computer says no' :/

I always seem to have problems with online application forms, please can somebody please help?

Cheers, Anna

Sometimes it can be easier to print out an application, complete it and scan it back in. Have you tried simply downloading the file to your desktop and opening directly with Word (not word viewer)?

If you don't have a version of Word that allows you to edit files, perhaps try installing LibreOffice and using its Writer application?

I have LibreOffice. When I click on Open though the application form automatically opens in Word Viewer, so how do I open it with LibreOffice?

Open LibreOffice and go to the file>open menu and then locate where you saved the file.

If you just double click on the file, it'll automatically open in the default software it's been assigned to.

No problem, though Bod1467 should take most of the credit for suggesting secondary software.

If you're interested, it's possible to set your system to open docx files in LibreOffice by default in future. Let me know which version of Windows you're using and I'll send you the steps.

    Yes, thank you Bod1467 too :) .

Opening documents in LibreOffice by default would be perfect, as LibreOffice always works for me, so if you could send me the steps that would be great. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium

Control Panel / Default Programs then select Libreoffice writer...then choose defaults for this program

You can use this to change many defaults

Or right-click on a docx file in Windows Explorer and choose Open With...

In the box which appears expand the Other programs list - If Writer appears there (or in the Recommended Programs section) then select it. make sure the Always use checkbox is selected then click OK.

If Writer is nor shown then use the Browse... button to find the Writer application.

But DCM's method above is probably quicker. :) (Although the precise method is Control Panel | Default Programs | Set your default programs)
  • Mea culpa Bod, I am using Fedora and my exact memory fails me from time to time...now if I was at home then I would have checked using a Windoze machine:cool:
