Dog Friendly Wedding Venue.. HELP!!!

Options
Hello Everyone!

I've not been around for a couple of years now! It's lovely to be back, but please be kind. :rotfl:

I first came here when I was a student (hence the name) and now I'm a little bit more grown up (just a bit) and I've got a wedding to plan! :j

I'm in Huddersfield and I desperately want to find a dog friendly wedding venue! Something modern but with countryside views. Unfortunately, after searching for a few weeks now.. I seem to be asking too much :o

I was wondering if any of you lovely money savers could help me find my perfect venue? I can't afford to pay the earth and I really need some help with hidden costs and if anyone else has requested their dogs being at their wedding?

The church I'm hoping to get married at has already said they're happy to have my dogs present at the wedding and I'd like them to be around for the wedding breakfast. I want them to be out of the way for the evening event as I don't want them to get scared by loud guests/music so somewhere close by to Huddersfield or with dog friendly accommodation would be perfect. Then they can go home or be with my sister in her bedroom at the hotel.

Can anyone please help me?! :(

Thanks, Christie xx

    Hi Christie,

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions near to you, but just wanted to say that 'dog friendly' was on my wedding venue wishlist (well, must-have!) too.

Have you tried looking at big country house type places, ones that you would normally rent for exclusive-use for a weekend? That's what I'm having. Added bonus is that it has a wedding license too, so we can have the ceremony there as well. Unfortunately for you it's in Cornwall!

I'm only having about 25 guests but if you need space for a lot more people maybe this wouldn't work unless there was a very large dining room / drawing room etc.

Not very close to Huddersfield but my friend got married at the Devonshire Fell in the Yorkshire Dales, prob just over an hour from you, and their dog was very much involved in the wedding!! hotels might be better as a lot of them let guests have dogs normally for an extra fee so are probably used to them!

Our reception hotel/inn is in a rural location where everyone has their dogs with them all the time (OH's office allows people to bring their dogs to work with them as long as they are well behaved!!) so us and our guests can bring dogs if we want to as long as they stay within the function, bar, courtyard and sofa areas. Any pub hotel type places near your church that allow dogs overnight? Its probably also worth asking about any modern pretty village halls if they would allow well behaved dogs inside? I'm sure many would be accommodating.

  • What about a local sports club? People are always bringing their dogs to the rugby club near us and they're allowed inside also there's plenty of green space outside for them too. Some let you hold your reception there (although sometimes you have to be a member). Good luck! :)
  • Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for the replies and suggestions!

Unfortunately most of the pubs around our area have a certain look to them.. usually a bit run down on the outside and have a really old dark wood feel to the d!cor which isn't a favourite of mine for a wedding venue.

I'm really after something that's quite modern inside and the look of a country house on the outside with the views of countryside or moors for great photo opportunities... all at a decent price.. :rotfl: Not asking for much am I?

Thanks for your ideas though, they've been really helpful!

Comp Bunny - Fantastic idea! I've had a quick look and might have found a place thats looking like a good contender. I'm still looking for other places but I've definitely found one to pop on the list! :T

  • I've found it!!!!!!

We've done it! We found our perfect wedding venue a couple of weeks ago and have just paid the deposit to confirm our wedding date next year! The venue is beautiful and the wedding co-ordinator is allowing us to have our 2 dogs present for the reception! I'm so pleased!! Here are some pictures of the venue!!

Oh good. So it's not just me who's wondering why on earth the forum software won't let us use an acute e in a post ...

Is that in Penistone? My SIL had her wedding reception there a couple of years ago. We didn't take the dogs so didn't think to recommend it! The function room was done out really nicely - great choice :)
