Welcome to the Bankruptcy Board - Part 2
Comments

Every now and then we have had a number of offensive and insensitive comments made on the BR board.
What do we mean by this?
A person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads is know as a Troll. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board, someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made or a poster who has been a member here for a long time.
If you should get such a comment made on any thread you post, please realise this comment is not directed at you personally so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal because the majority of us really are a lovely bunch – ooops, modesty! That said there are different writing styles; some brief and some harsh but helpful. If you happen to read them when you are not going through such an emotional time, you may find you are not as offended. So if they have upset you please try not to respond angrily. Most people are simply trying to help.
What should I do if I get a comment made on my thread?
Firstly do not respond to the comment as this is invariably what the troll wants.
So to get rid of the offending post, at the bottom of the post towards the right hand side you’ll see a red "Warning" triangle within a blue “Report” icon, as shown below:
Click the icon and then "send" the message with the posters name which will inform the MSE team, who will then review its content and deal with it as appropriate; sometimes even deleting the Poster by making their status PPR’d (Posting Privileges Removed). Remember, this site is an asset to so many people, especially those that feels like their world is falling in around them. There is a wealth of knowledgeable people here all willing to help, whatever you do, do not let the comments of one silly individual deter you from availing yourself of the knowledge base that is on offer here.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE FORUM
It is testament to the work that Martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time, knowledge and experience freely to others; without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of their debt crisisPLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT"If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"

Hi, Newbie here so please accept apologies if I have posted in the wrong place.
My story..... Ok, like so many others I have shamefully not managed my finances and have taken my head out of the sand and realized that this isn't going away....
I have written down all of my debts priority and non-priority and done the whole national debtline budget sheet which shows that I am minus about £250 a month to pay every debtor per month.... hence why I don't have any defaults YET but nerves frayed from juggling who gets what and who has to wait...
I am paying the minimum repayment on most of my debts, so there is no light at the end of the tunnel as far as repaying what I owe as 95% is just interest yadda yadda yadda!!!
I'd say my biggest debt is the car which is a 5 yr finance, I haven't missed a payment as this one is always a priority as I need a car for work (work different shifts and finish late etc, work 50 mile round trip from home)
I think for this reason I have continued to juggle rather than accept defeat and look at BR seriously.
I don't have a question as such, but, I feel I need someone to tell me that this really is the only option, I cant clear the debt even in 15 years I will still be paying just above minimum repayment per month.
I'd say my total debt is close to 20k including the car finance
I'm just so scared about what to do the whole process is really scarey, I don't have any assets except furniture oh and a computer... obviously but that is my daughters and I use it when she is out! I worry how I will get to work to support my family if my car is sent back etc.
Any advice would be welcome from those who have walked the path before me
I have never even been to court before and would panic that they would lock me up for being bad hahahah just ridiculous but a half true worry!Thriftkitten

Hi.
1st get talking to stepchange, National Debtline, CAB etc to see what they think the options are. We can give opinions all we like, but really needs several opinions from professional debt advisors who have access to the full picture to give any meaningful advice on what is the best option.
Car are difficult. Depends on how much it is worth, whether is was really HP or just a loan, and if HP how much is paid off so far. The OR or finance company would only usually want you to give it up if there was a net gain for them in doing so, which with many cars on finance there just isn't. But it's all down to individual cases, so you may want to start a thread on that.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Many thanks I will contact CAB first thing monday... Re the car it is financed through santander, I have had car finance for years and never missed a payment, but only recently took this one out last november. so not even a year into a 5 yr term, not sure if it matters but after the full term was up i would pay an extra payment and the car would be mine, not sure if that helps with which kind of deal it isThriftkitten

Welcome to the Bankruptcy (BR) Board.
Hello and Welcome, Many of the posters on here have been through bankruptcy. They will be able to help, advise and also offer you support. We do have posters who have/do work for the OR and Debt charities too.
Written by Fermi our board guide:-
"Many people find that debt and bankruptcy is the cause or result of a period of great distress and anxiety in their lives. For some this can reach a stage where it is difficult to cope. So I would remind you that The Samaritans are available to help you through your troubles if the emotional side threatens to become overwhelming."

To post your question go to the top left hand side of BR board, opposite the page numbers and press the "New Thread" button as shown below:
And type in the Title to your thread. If your post doesn’t get answered straight away please don’t lose heart, it’s often due to not being a 100% sure we would be giving the correct answer. If you find your post is not answered and it’s on page 2, please ‘bump’ your post back up the board.
We often ask you to post your SOA so we can see if you have included what you need to:-
