Need Help Commercial Property

The commercial space I rent in Scotland was sold to a new landlord. I was on half rent for a few months and due to go to full rent in October. The new landlord clearly didn't read the contract and kept invoicing me for half rent. He now has noticed and wants the full backdated amount back. Is he allowed to do that? I paid what he invoiced, it was his responsibility to check surely.
