This is what Ernst and Young say...

    and as you said yourself...

Yes, but are Ernst and Young now "everyone"?

I mean, I got pulled up on leaving one word out of the title.

Hamish says "almost everyone now agrees" with no evidence and people rally round Hamish to highlight one forcaster and suggest that means "everyone".

Who is everyone? It just goes against everything thats been said about HTB to suggest "almost everyone now agrees".

I'm mostly holding on to this one just because so much was made of my title, yet Hamish can write any old guff he likes and you rally round him?

I'd suggest that this sort of stuff has more impact on your day to day life than London house prices.

Am I really seeing Devon arguing with his own posts? A new level of muddling has now been reached.

What I find fascinating is how much he cares about house prices in a city he probably doesn't visit more than once a year and has zero intention of ever living or buying a house in.

Bonkers, but there you go. Some people just seem to enjoy moaning.

    Do you mean pedantry?

I think that if you put in a bit more care and attention, and made suer that you were accurately summarising your links, then you may get a few fewer "pedantic" replies. Your constant misrepresentation to fit your agenda really does need people to keep picking you up on it.

    I think you mean "sure".

This thread is bizarre. If this had been posted by anyone else except for the OP there might have been a reasonable debate about what (if anything) the BOE could do to intervene in London prices...

This thread has indeed gone off at a bit of a tangent. That said, surely the issue of a report highlighting that the London Housing market is exhibiting bubble like tendancies (something anyone connected with the market could have told you for several Months) is a prime subject for debate on a messageboard entitled "debate house prices and the economy". Who the OP is should be irrelevant to that debate imho.

It's because people are falling over each other to play the man not the ball. For instance the OP says nothing about help to buy, but the whole thread seems to be about help to buy because the OP has talked about it before. I wonder whether anyone has anything to say about what is happening in London.

Personally as a person trying to buy a house about a mile outside "London" I find the market bizarre and worrying and I cannot work out what is driving it and supporting it. I worry about who will actually be physically able to buy a house from me in 5 years' time when I want to sell it because I'm not really sure how anyone who hasn't been pretty lucky can even afford to buy now let alone in 5-10 years' time.

I must admit there does seem to be quite a bit of that going on and although I rarely agree with him I don't think he deserves all the stick he gets.

I think it's probably sensible to reduce HTB2 from 600K down to around 400K.

Not that I think it'll make the slightest bit of difference to London prices, as I doubt there is much if any lending going on at the highest brackets of the scheme, but because it might just shut up those who wrongly think HTB is fuelling a London bubble.

And by doing it that way it'll leave the scheme to continue helping people who actually need it.
