Selling clothes and jewelry?

I have a PO box address at present, so can't use ebay to sell clothes.

Has anyone had a good experience with consignment shops for clothes? I don't have my camera lead here so can't upload pics and use them for gumtree etc.

How about jewelry, what might be the best method for selling if you can't use ebay? Local auction houses?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I haven't actually used a dress agency (consignment shop) although I've made enquiries. Usually they will only take designer or very high-end high street, definitely no Primark or Topshop! I imagine some would take jewellery as well. Personally I would try local jewellers as they might well give you money upfront rather than paying auction fees whether you sell or not.
  • Oh I didn't realise auction houses might make you pay upfront. Ok will try jewelers.

I do have some high end stuff on me clothes-wise so will try the consignment store, thank you!

I don't think Liz meant that Auction Houses make you pay upfront! But, as she said, they will charge you fees after the auction whether the items they are selling for you actually sell or not.

    Good Luck!

P.S. Most consignment shops that I've had dealings with are very strict as to the seasonality of clothes. Like major stores, they usually have their Spring collections in when there's still a lot of the Winter still to come. I once took in a superb designer Winter coat during a long spell of atrociously cold snd snowy weather just before Christmas one year only to be told they were not accepting cold-weather items as their Spring displays etc were all ready to start! Best check by phone first before you take anything in.

Also, items must be pristine and ready to hang and sell straight away. The Agency is not responsible for steaming/pressing clothes etc prior to display.
